Fringe ends today, but you have one last chance to experience what I did, and judging by the sun rising outside my window, the stage is set for another beautiful show. Everything about outdoor, site specific, summer theatre makes me happy: the early evening sun setting on the stage, the grass I sit on, the city's hum adding to the sound scape, that indescribably summery smell in the air, the breeze bringing the costumes to life and all that before you even enjoy the story. And
Urban Jungle Theatre are quite skilled at story-telling.
On an absolutely perfect summer evening,
Jungle 1: I Spy took me and its audience of eager Fringers on a trip through classic jazz clubs, secret meetings on park benches, dangerous and seductive rendezvous in alley ways and exhilarating chase scenes told through the imaginations of two young women. And when I say took me on a trip, I mean quite literally had me following the action as it spread the story around different nooks of the courtyard. One particular chase scene performed masterfully by company members Jen Hum and Adrian Yearwood will open your eyes to the magic and endless possibilities outdoor, site-specific theatre can provide; one of the mandates of Urban Jungle.
So grab your blanket, bike, walk or ride the rocket down to The Annex and get ready for story time; there's a perfect patch of grass waiting for you.
Jungle 1: I Spy, North side of Central Tech, today only, 7pm.
